Cradle Hay Feeder Single (CHF1) Cradle Hay Feeder Double (CHF2)

FAQs:

Q. How many stock per feeder?

A. 250 sheep or goats and 50 Cattle
Q. How do you load them?

A. There are several different ways to load them due to the roll loading method.
Q. What is in the bottom of the Cradle Hay Feeders?

A. A galvanised sheet. This prevents the hay from falling on the ground and deteriorating from any mud.
Q. How is the Cradle Hay Feeders joined together?

A. The single round roll Cradle Hay Feeder flat packs into 4 panels and the floor sheet. The panels are joined together with 8 bolts and the floor is joined to the side panels by tec screws.
Q. Can sheep access the whole bale?

A. Yes. Even 3 month old lambs can reach in to the middle of the floor to finish off bales.
Q. Are they easy to move?

A. They can be easily skidded from position to position. Alternatively, they can be picked up and moved while full of hay or silage or picked up by hand and put in a ute or trailer when empty.
Q. Are they strong enough for cattle?

A. About half of these Cradle Hay Feeders are sold to farmers with cattle. We have yet to hear of any feeders that have bent.
Q. What is the width of the bars?

A. The bars have a 200mm gap between each upright. This is to prevent sheep and goats from getting in between the bars.
Q. How long to put together?

A. 15-30 minutes for the single round roll model and 30-50 minutes for the large square/ double round roll feeder.

Testimonials

“I previously fed hay to my sheep on the ground and always wasted a large percentage of it. Now I have an Advantage Feeders Cradle Hay Feeder I hardly lose any and that’s important at the current price.”

Andrew Browne, Axedale

“Feeding hay was frustrating because my cattle used to lay in it, and more. Now I can contain the hay I feel confident in feeding larger quantities as they can’t ruin it. Also, I find feeding easier as I can just cut the strings or wrap and just roll the bale in the feeder from my trailer.”

Ken Broman, Knowsley

“I find that using the Cradle Hay Feeders are a great way to supplement my sheep. When feeding hay, I don't have the problem of ewes chasing the ute and leaving their lambs behind.”

Peter McRobert, Toolleen

Feature: Waste Saving

Benefit: The hay and silage is contained within the sides of the Cradle Hay Feeder. This prevents the feed from being wasted by trampling, soiling and urine. A study by the NSW Department of Primary Industries and Sheep CRC found that, when feeding lambs, similar feeders that contain hay and silage in this way saved 38% of the bale compared to feeding the bale on the ground (read the article). These savings aresimilar for goats, calves, mature sheep and other livestock. Significant savings can also be made for cattle even though they tend to waste less. The amount saved can vary through out the season depending on the condition of the soil (whether damp or not), the weather (how often the feed is rained upon) and the availability of feed in the paddocks (as feed may need to be contained for long periods when the season is starting).

Feature: Labour Saving

Benefit: Feeding a whole bale means allows up to 450kg of hay or 800kg of silage to be fed at once. Livestock can be supplemented or completely fed hay for several weeks by attending the Cradle Hay Feeder just once. The loading of hay into the Advantage Feeders Cradle Hay Feeder is very quick (in comparison to rolling the bales out in paddock), often just cutting the strings or mesh and rolling it in a feeder off the side of a utility or trailer. These combined factors can save labour costs by a dramatic 80%. Another benefit for commercial farming enterprises (where there are often several mobs to be fed) is that a utility and trailer can be loaded with 4 or so round bales and then attend the feeders, compared to otherfeed out wagons that can carry only 1 or 2 bales at a time.

Feature: 75mm wide plate skids

Benefit:The Cradle Hay Feeder comes standard with two 75mm wide skids. These allow the feeder to be towed in wet and dry conditions. The skids hava a bar between them with 2 loops which allows a rope or chain to be attached to them for towing.

Feature: Flat Packing Feeder

Benefit: The ability of flat packing has a double saving effect:
1) transport costs; and
2) assembly costs.
The transport costs are dramatically reduced because each feeder is flat-packed into a space of 1850 x 915 x 100 mm. Assembly costs are also saved, the assembly of the Cradle Hay Feeders usually takes between 15 and 30 minutes.
